Playing with the Pads

The Pads Screen provides direct controls over the playback of iSample's 6 sampler engines.

Fig 2: Pad 2

The six pad buttons control playback of the six sampler engines. If you touch a pad, it will start playback of the sampler associated with the pad. The sampler will play for as long as you hold you finger on the pad.

Fig 3: Pad 2 (Loop On)

If you release your finger on the portion of the pad that has the loop icon, the sampler will continue to loop until the pad is touched again.

Fig 4: Pad 1 (Trigger Playing)

The Trigger button to the right of the Loop button will cause the sampler to play the sample as a one-shot. In other words, it will play the sample from start to end, and then stop without looping.

Fig 5: Record Arm Button Pressed

The Pads Screen also provides access to iSample's multi-touch recording. This is accessed by pressing the large Record Button and then pressing the pad you wish to record onto. iSample will record for as long as the pad is pressed.

Fig 6: Recording in progress

You can lock recording on a pad by releasing your finger on the lower left portion of the pad that becomes highlighted when touched. This will cause the pad to lock itself on record.

You can slide your fingers across the pads and use multiple-touches to play up to 5 pads at a time. You can also record on one or more pads while playing back samples on other pads. The Pads Screen can be quite a bit of fun to use.

The Pads Screen also provides access to the Mixer and Song Mode screens. Also, in the lower right corner there is a quick access button that takes you back to the last edit screen you were on.

Also, below the "Song Mode" button is a button labeled "Seq. Play". This button starts and stops the sequencer engine. When the sequencer is running, it overrides the state of the pads and controls the sampler engines as if it were being played by pressing the pads. To learn more about the sequencer, see the manual sections for The Pattern Screen and The Song Screen.
